Over 40% of the world's population is estimated to be under 25 years old.  15% of those under 25 experience a mental health condition, with half starting before the age of 14.  Many factors, including genetics, family dynamics, trauma, loss, isolation, and bullying, can contribute to the development of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders during this critical period.  Given many young people with mental health issues go undetected, these estimates are undercounting the scope of the problem.

There are a few things we can do to foster our mental health.  Leveraging what experts say, I look forward to sharing key articles, blogs, etc, that provide helpful Insights.   The first area I want to explore is loneliness.  While the statistics vary significantly, it is reported that one in three people 18-25 feels lonely.  On Healthy Young Minds, Dr. Carl Whitlock identifies several key steps to address loneliness:

  • Understand and Accept Loneliness
  • Reach Out To Others
  • Practice Mindful Awareness
  • Engage in Creative Arts
  • Be Kind to Yourself
  • Build New Connections
  • Know It's OK To Seek Help

Take a look at the full blog on Healthy Young Minds.  It is valuable reading.

While one blog will not address your loneliness, it will hopefully help you start a journey of personal growth with the Voices Under One Sun community.

Stay bold, stay brilliant,
