I am going to learn how to use section brakes in Microsoft Word.

But let's first define what section brakes are a section brake splits a document into two or more sections, which can have different layout options.文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

To better understand this we will look at the following document.文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

Let's say that we only want the second and 3rd page of the whole document to have a landscape orientation.文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

Then this means that we want the second and 3rd page to have a different layout style compared to the first page and the 4th page.文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

Therefore we need to split the document in a way, so that the second and 3rd page are a separate section.文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

To achieve this we click at the end of the first page, go to the layout tab, open the brake drop down and select next page.文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

Like this we have already split the document after the first page to be able to see the section brake文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

We go to the home tab and activate the formatting symbols文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

As we can see now the symbol for the section brake is a double dotted line文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

We can also activate the header and foot area文章源自LuckYou.ORG-https://luckyou.org/106.html

To see the exact number of the current section

Now we click at the end of the 3rd page and insert the next section brake

So our document is now basically split up into 3 sections

The first section which contains only the first page

The second section which contains the second and 3rd page

And the 3rd section which contains all the pages from the 4th page onwards

When we now click into one page of the second section.

We can easily change the orientation of the pages in this section by clicking on orientation and then on landscape.

The orientation of the other sections won't change of course.

We have to clean the layout a bit after an orientation change

If we decide that we don't like the section brakes and want to delete them, then we simply click in front of them, and hit the delete key.

These section brakes of course can not only be used for page orientation.

But also for all the other page formatting options, like page border, watermarks and so on.

That we already discussed in the chapter called page formatting.

Until now you have learned how to change the layout options between hole pages.

But there also exists a function to have different layout options even inside a single page.

This is for example the case when we want to use different margins inside a specific part of a page.

Let's say that we want only the 3rd paragraph to have narrow margins.

Then we insert a continuous section brake before and after of the paragraph.

And now when we click into this section.

We can change the margins for this single section inside the page.

So that's it you now know how to change the layout options for specific parts of your document
